Product Review:
If you’ve been searching
the internet for information about learning the guitar
recently, then no doubt you’ll have come across a
product called Jamorama. Jamorama claims to be a fast
and effective teaching method to take you from complete
beginner and have you playing like a pro in no time, and
it seems almost every guitar website out there is
singing its praises, and recommending it highly. But
does it deserve its reputation as the internet’s number
one low price guitar course? Well, read on to find out.
So what exactly is
Jamorama? Jamorama is a downloadable guitar course
designed for beginners. It uses written lessons,
combined with audio and video, to guide you, step by
step, from the very beginning, showing you exactly what
to do along the way to becoming a competent guitarist.
It uses an attractive, and very simple, software
interface to guide you through the lessons, and it comes
with some great extra software tools designed to enhance
your overall musicianship.
The main part of the
package is the Jamorama software itself. This is where
all the lessons are accessed from. The lessons are
arranged into two books; one called beginner, and one
called Advanced, in all containing 44 chapters over 252
pages. It also comes with 26 jam tracks for you to play
along to, and 148 video examples. As well as the main
Jamorama course you also get the following bonus
software: GuitEarIt!, a great little ear training
tool which trains you to recognise chord progression by
ear, great when you want to learn new songs quickly.
Also, a fantastic program called Jayde Musica Pro which
will dramatically improve your ability to read music
notation. You get a guide to tuning the guitar, complete
with reference pitches, and lastly, you also get a
metronome program; every musician needs a metronome, and
this one is as good as any.
When it comes to actually using Jamorama,
things couldn’t really be simpler. Firstly you download
the software, which only takes a few minutes with a
broadband connection. Then you install it, a quick and
easy process for me, and then you have to download the
lessons and videos, which takes a bit longer seeing as
there are so many of them. Once installed, double click
the icon and you’re taken straight to the main page of
the software. From here you simply select which of the
two books you want to work from, and then choose a
lesson. The lessons themselves are well thought out and
naturally arranged in a progressive manner, getting more
difficult as you work your way through the course. They
are easy to follow and well explained, and to access the
accompanying audio or video you simply click the icons
within the lessons.
So is this a good system for learning the
guitar? Well, if you ask me, yes it is. A system like
this lets you learn in the comfort of your own home, at
your own pace, so you don’t have the pressure you might
get from having a private tutor. Unlike books, or most
other learning methods, Jamorama guides you along every
step of the learning process, just like a real teacher.
The video examples are an excellent feature as they
allow you to watch exactly what your fingers and hands
should be doing. They’re shot with multiple cameras,
offering close-ups of both hands for clarity and, of
course, having the ability to pause, rewind, and replay
the videos really is invaluable and can make learning
much quicker and more effective.
The jam tracks are another really
beneficial feature as they allow you to take what you’ve
learnt and apply it in a real musical context, as well
as letting you experience what it’s like to play along
with a band. Amongst the lesson content you will learn
some of the most common chord progressions, which will
enable you to learn and play your favourite songs much
quicker and easier. All this, combined with the bonus
software, will, if you’re prepared to put the effort in,
endeavour to turn you into a very competent guitarist
and all round musician.
Having used this product for myself, and
seen what it has to offer, I think it really does
deserve its reputation as the leading low cost guitar
learning course on the internet. It covers all the
bases, and is excellent value for money – the whole
thing costs less than an hour’s tuition with a
professional teacher. If you want to learn the guitar,
I’d strongly advise you to take a look at this software.
